Useful Google Chrome Extensions

Google Chrome browser has many extensions that are developed by many developers around the world. And they are freely distributed, just like Google Chrome itself. Some of them are just for fun, and some are too useful that I must install it on my laptop. Here I just want to share the useful one which may help out your work. They are on an unordered list, not based on their rank.

• Google Translate

  

  This is the first extension I read when I access the Google Chrome extensions main site. It is displayed on the front page, on the today’s top picks box. And also it’s the first extension I gave a try. Many comments about it said that the extension does not work at all, especially with vista. But when I gave it a try with XP, it worked, though the translation quality is not as perfect as we expected. One thing you must notice, do not try this extension to translate the pages on https://chrome.google.com/extensions. It does not work because Chrome does not allow extension gallery pages to be scripted. Give Google Translate extension a try.

• Google Mail Checker Plus

  

  If you have Google Mail account, then you might need Google Mail Checker Plus extension to be installed on your Chrome browser. It has mail preview window, it also has the options to delete, read or spam any inbox on the preview window which will open when you click the icon next to address bar.

• Quick Bookmarks

  

  There are several extensions similar to Quick Bookmarks extension. But I found this one has a quite simple but cool drop down menu. It will display your bookmarks list once you click the button. There’s another trick if for one or more reason you don’t want to install Quick Bookmarks extension. Read “Access Your Bookmarks with a Toolbar Button in Google Chrome” or “Menampilkan Tombol Bookmark di Toolbar Google Chrome“.

• Speed Dial

  

  Speed Dial extension will replace Chrome new tab with your predefined visual bookmarks. You can add until 48 speed dial in the new tab window. You can even add your own image to be set as the background image. Speed Dial will add its icon on the right side of address bar which you can access by single click, and you can hide it whenever you have finished to set your favorite dial.

• FlashBlock

  

  Many websites have one or more flash contents on it, some of them are ads and some are site’s element that makes the whole website looks more attractive. For some people, flash contents are very annoying due to the loading time and memory usage. For you who don’t want your chrome to load that flash content, you should take a look at FlashBlock extension for Chrome. It automatically blocks flash content on webpages. Each flash element is being replaced with a placeholder that allows you to load only selected elements on a given page. In general, FlashBlock helps with lowering memory usage, reducing cpu cycles, and can be used as an alternative to AdBlock. As a additional, you can also manage a whitelist of allowed websites via a configuration panel.

• SEO Status Pagerank/Alexa Toolbar

  

  Just like its name, SEO Status Pagerank/Alexa Toolbar extension has the functionality to show Google pagerank and Alexa rank for every visited website that is displayed on the active tab. It also has additional informations such as backlinks link, whois link, and domain availability.

• Local Read Later

  

  Local Read Later extension provides the same functionality as Mozilla add-on Read It Later but it saves the data in your local machine. It’s not perfect extension yet, the only way for you to add a webpage in the local read later list is to hit Ctrl+Alt+R. The same way you need to do if you want to remove the webpage from local read later list.

• Facebook ads remove

  

  Do you feel that all ads on facebook is irritating and nonsense? Then you should install Facebook ads remove extension on your Chrome browser. It works for me, but sometimes it doesn’t. Don’t get surprised if you will get a new facebook layout.

• Shareaholic

  

  Shareaholic extension adds a button to your browser toolbar. Once you found an interesting page, just click the shareaholic button or icon to share it with your friends. You can also save or e-mail the page you’re visiting. But unfortunately, you must have an account at Shareaholic if you’d like to change the settings.
